How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is a 2019 animated action film that has been partially adapted from the book series written by Cressida Cowell. The film was produced by DreamWorks Animation and is the third and final movie in the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ franchise. The film was written and directed by Dean DeBlois, and features the voices of Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Cate Blanchett, Craig Ferguson along with F. Murray Abraham. The film follows Hiccup who is searching for a dragon utopia known as the ‘Hidden World’ while adjusting to Toothless’ bond with the female dragon Light Fury.

A year after the previous film, Hiccup, Toothless and the other dragon-riders keep rescuing captured dragons and brining them to Berk. However, the island has become too overpopulated with dragons. Hiccup comes up with the idea of seeking out ‘The Hidden World’, a safe place for dragons which was spoken of by his late father, Stoick. Toothless comes across a female dragon caled Light Fury which unbeknownst to him is bait for dragon-hunter Grimmel the Grisly who wants to capture Toothless. The two dragons are charmed by each other until Light Fury flees on sensing Hiccup nearby. Hiccup comes across the dragon traps and Grimmel visits Hiccup with a demand that he hand over Hiccup, who refuses. As a retaliation, Grimmel burns down Hiccup’s home. Hiccup rallies the other citizens of Berk who come together to find the Hidden World.The Berkiand discover another island which they plan to settle down in. Toothless and Light Fury meanwhile fly away to an unknown land. Valka spots Grimmel and his army approaching. They try to capture Grimmel but fail, evading capture. Grimmel follows the escaping citizens and comes across the new Berk. Meanwhile Hiccup and Astrid find the Hidden World where Toothless and Light Fury are now living in peace. Grimmel and his army follow Hiccup and a brutal fight takes place with the people of Berk fighting to protect the dragons from capture. Finally Grimmel and his army are defeated. Hiccup bids goodbye to his first friend as he realises that the dragons will never be safe in the human world. Many years later, Hiccup, Astrid and their children are reunited with the dragons in ‘The Hidden World’.

The film was quite successful and was the fifth highest-grossing animated film of the year. The film was also nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 92nd Academy Awards, losing out to Toy Story 4.
