Each child deserves to find an enabling environment that caters to his or her learning style and potential. A student with ADHD cannot function in a highly structured classroom that does not allow frequent movement breaks or hands-on type activities. Without proper accommodation and support given to them, these kinds of children end up feeling abandoned, which grossly affects the confidence of a child and his academic performance.

But traditional schools are adapting. Many public and private schools now offer learning support programs, special education services, and IEPs. For some children, however, these supports may not be sufficient. And that’s when specialized schools come in.

Specialized schools for learning differences offer specialized tuition to meet each student’s needs. The schools are usually set up in such a way that they provide an enabling environment, which helps students with learning difficulties to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

Teachers in such schools are specially trained to recognize these differences in learning and create, apply, and implement evidence-based practices to facilitate each child to their full potential. Classes are generally small in size, with more one-on-one teaching, creating great bonds between educator and child.

Most of these schools provide not only academic support but also social-emotional learning to help the students build up their self-confidence, resiliency, and interpersonal relations. Incorporating assistive technology, multi-sensory teaching techniques, and therapeutic services into the curriculum ensures that the students are exposed to a broad curriculum based on their talents and interests.

This may act as a savior for the parents when their child gets enrolled in a particular school to cater to their learning needs. Such a school offers an environment that celebrates differences without stigmatizing them; in this way, children are empowered to perform their best.
