Tools And Equipment Every Beginner Needs For Scrapbooking

Creating a scrapbook is all about preserving memories for future generations. Paired with paper supplies, photos, stamps, and embellishments, you can create endless theme-based recollections.

For people who are new to scrapbooking and unsure about what tools and equipment are required to take up this hobby, the below list will prove to be useful. This fun and inexpensive hobby needs certain basic items in the craft box to put a scrapbook together.

1. Cardstock

Cardstock is the most vital requirement for scrapbooking. To make your scrapbook project last for years, you can choose acid-free and lignin-free papers that will keep your project intact without turning yellow. Next, you need to select the colour of the cardstock depending on your project.

2. Patterned Paper

Patterned paper or scrapbook papers come in different designs, paperweights, finishes, and textures. Based on your intended colour scheme and requirement, you can choose the scrapbook paper that will enhance your project’s overall look.

3. Scissors or Trimmers

Good cutting tools are essential for scrapbook activities as you need to get the right cut of your paper. A pair of scissors is the most basic cutting tool for every scrapbooker. You can cut papers in different shapes using your creativity. You can also get a paper trimmer if you want quick and straight cuts for your paper.

4. Embellishments

Enhance the overall look of your scrapbook with embellishments. Buttons, ribbons, laces, beads, and stickers can help give a creative look to your craft project. Some of these embellishments have to be glued onto the page while others are ready to use and have adhesive on the backside.

5. Adhesives

Adhesives are a must-have for scrapbookers and are needed to paste all the photos, embellishments, or whatever you intend to stick on the page. There are multiple adhesives to choose from and include tape runner, glue dots, foam tape, glue stick, liquid stick and more. Depending on the intended surface, you can select the right adhesive. Acid-free adhesives are ideal for both cardstock and photos.

6. Pens or Markers

Pens or markers are often overlooked writing tools but are necessary for scrapbooking. To write details about the page, choose a good pen or marker that does not bleed, is fade-proof and water-proof. You can start with a couple of fine tip pigment ink black pens that will not damage your pages.

7. Album

To keep your scrapbook pages secure, you will also need a quality album. Albums are available in different designs, sizes and styles. The size will depend on the size of the pages you want to create. A small sized album is usually ideal for beginners. The most popular size of the scrapbook is 8 ½ * 11. You can either opt for a post-bound or three-ring binders’ style of albums for your project.

8. Photos

For creating a scrapbook, picking up photos for which the scrapbook is made is essential. Choose photos that are well lit, clear, and not faded at all for the best results.

9. Page Protectors

Page protectors will help keep your scrapbook pages in good condition. Page protectors made from polypropylene or polyethylene are an ideal choice and will not damage or fade your pages over time.

10. Other Tools

Some other handy tools are hole punch, ruler, and paper punches. If you want to create tags, a hole punch will help you do the job. A ruler and paper punches will also be used over and over again for scrapbooking.

With all the tools and equipment in your hands, you can now assemble your supplies and make your unique Scrapbook album. Create your own story and preserve your memories by showing off your creative side.
