The Future Of Mobile Gaming

To say that mobile gaming has a bright future would be an understatement. With the proliferation of smartphones with increased processing power and graphics capabilities, mobile gaming is set to dominate the gaming market in the future.  A popular mobile game needs no gaming consoles like PlayStation or Xbox, and so is accessible to the common man. But there are more reasons to say that mobile gaming will rule the gaming world in the future.

Cloud-Based Gaming

Slow internet connections are a thing of the past with the advent of 5G technology.  With 5G networks, users get faster data speeds and lower latency which allows for more sophisticated and immersive games on mobile devices. Online gaming lets the user save his mobile storage for more important stuff, which is a huge advantage for people who play lots of games.

Freemium-based Monetization

The freemium monetization model is a commonly used business strategy in the gaming world, that offers the basic version of a game for free while charging a fee for upgrades or premium features. What can be played for free are mostly low-quality games. Serious gamers pay to play, and great developers make a lot of money creating great games. Freemium monetization has become the norm now.

Continued adoption of web3 protocols

Web3 technology includes blockchain and decentralized networks allowing for the ability to facilitate in-game purchases and trading of virtual items. It also assures greater transparency and security in online games. In the future new and innovative games that take advantage of these capabilities will be created.

Improved Gaming Experiences

Gone are the days of the horrible graphics and high latency of games such as Solitaire and Snake game. With the advent of AI and 4K graphics, mobile games of the future will have astoundingly advanced graphics and zero lagging. Not to mention the processing power that can beat next-generation consoles.

Big Publishers investing more in Mobile Games

Nowadays mobile gaming is not the monopoly of indie developers. Big-name developers have shifted their focus to mobile gaming, away from PC and console gaming. The trend will continue in the future. Tencent, Apple, Google – all have made billions from the mobile games industry.  Mobile gaming is slated to become a $170 billion industry by 2026, and it is no surprise that every big name in the industry will want a chunk of it. In the meanwhile, PUBG is the highest-grossing game in the world with an annual average income of $237 million.

Augmented Reality

AR is a technology that creates a blended reality that users are able to interact with, by overlaying digital elements on top of the real world. A very popular example is Pokémon Go, which uses AR technology to let users catch digital Pokémon in the real world. As AR technology continues to develop, there will surely be more mobile games that make use of the technology to create uniquely engaging gaming experiences.

Virtual Reality

VR is a technology that stimulates a 3D environment that users can interact with, thus creating a totally immersive gaming experience. As mobile devices get increasingly powerful, Virtual Reality will become more accessible to gamers. Already there are very popular VR mobile games such as End Space VR, Minecraft VR, Titans of Space and VR Thrills: Roller Coaster 360.  Virtual Reality mobile games on a larger scale could be the next big thing in the mobile gaming world.

Mobile eSports

At present, eSports is a billion-dollar industry that is primarily controlled by PC and console games. Warcraft, League of Legends, CS: GO and Hearthstone have millions of fans, and these games make millions of dollars in annual profits. Mobile game publishers are making an effort to grab a share of the eSports business, but so far, only a few mobile games such as PUBG and Fortnite have been able to claim a significant audience. It may take a few more years before mobile games get the kind of audience that PC eSports have because of limitations in computing power. Mobile games as of now are just not as powerful as console games. However, this would surely change in the future.

Technology never stands still. There will be smarter and more powerful mobile phones in the future with better graphics, improved processing power, and better battery life.  Mobile phones have truly democratized the gaming industry, offering more accessibility and convenience for people of all walks of life. And it is going to get better in the future!
