You would have learnt multiplication tables in school. Did you like learning them? Do you like to do multiplication? Some students hate Mathematics with a passion. Those who hate Maths in general and multiplication in particular might think that it is a useless thing to learn. However, multiplication is needed in everyday life.
Imagine that your class has 31 students. Your teacher wants to give two pencils each to the students. If she wants to know how many pencils she needs to buy, she can calculate using addition. 2+2+2+….. 31 times. But this is a very troublesome process. It is so much easier to just multiply 31 by 2. She will get 62. So easy. She can just by 62 pencils. You see, even in this small example multiplication comes in as a very useful tool.
Let us take another example. Imagine that you are an adult. Imagine that you have some land near your house where you want to have a farm full of mango trees. How do you know how many mango tree saplings you need to buy and plant on your farm? You will first decide how many mango trees you want in each row, and then you will multiply it with the number of rows that are possible in your farm. Viola! Problem solved. You see, multiplication makes life easier.
