What are the things we need to keep our bodies healthy?
To stay healthy, we need unpolluted air to breathe in, nutritious food, and unpolluted water to drink. We also need to exercise our body and mind.
Let us look at what is meant by healthy, nutritious food.
There are four major types of healthy food.
1. Vegetables and fruits
Vegetables and fruits are usually low in calories and fat, but high in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Include dark green and orange vegetables in your meals each day.
2. Grain products
Grain products include all grains, pasta, cereals, rice, and food products made with grain flour such as corn flour. It is healthier to take grain products made with whole grain, instead of those made with refined grain. Always choose grain products that are low in fat, sugar or salt.
3. Milk and alternatives
This group includes milk, soy milk and other soy products, yogurt and cheese. Calcium is a nutrient provided along with other essential nutrients from this food group.
4. Meat and Alternatives
This group is high in protein, which is needed for cell growth and development. It also helps our body fight infections. Fat is another important component provided by this group of food, and it gives us energy and essential vitamins.
Unhealthy food
Unhealthy food is food that is not good for your body. They are unhealthy because they have too much sugar, oil and fat. Eating too much of unhealthy foods can make you overweight. Doughnuts, fried potato cakes, chicken nuggets, soda, soft drinks, and chicken burger are examples of unhealthy food.
Good eating habits
Different types of food help your body in different ways. That is why it is important to eat many different kinds of healthy foods. Eating too many snacks can make your body unhealthy. They can also make you sick.
- A healthy breakfast
Starting the day with a healthy breakfast is important. The food you eat for breakfast gives you the energy you need for daily activities. Porridge, cereal, toast, and eggs are some healthy foods you can eat for breakfast. A healthy breakfast should also have a piece of fruit and a drink, such as water, milk or fruit juice. - A healthy lunch
A healthy lunch will give you the energy to learn and play in the afternoon. Make sure your lunch has some food such as rice or bread. There should also be vegetables and a piece of fruit in your lunch. - A healthy dinner
A healthy dinner should have some meat and lots of vegetables. Fresh salads also should be included.
