“Inspector Nathan and the Mystery of Monstery” is one of the outstanding stories of the first biannual International Short Story Contest 2018 written by Nathan Kong Xai Tou, Sri KDU Primary School, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Inspector Nathan and the Mystery of Monstery

Once upon a time, there was a guy named Inspector Nathan. He found out more mysteries than you could ever imagine! But for every mystery you would have to pay him 1000 US Dollars. So he’s also richer than you could ever imagine! In this case he will solve the mystery of a robbery in the mayor’s house by the monsters!

He said, “We do not know how the monsters got here but all we know is these clues: 1: His house was a mess. 2: There were chemicals, which were not poisonous in the house. 3: There were some weird creatures left behind (all trapped in containers). 4: All that was missing were the candy and lollipops (the mayor loved them both) and last but not least: There were some alien technology parts in there.” But he kept one secret: It was like a jungle in there, there were vines, leaves and branches. He didn’t want the mayor to be mad and fire him so he kept it as a secret to the mayor, the others knew it because they already had seen it for themselves. They also kept it as a secret to the mayor. He said to one of the men in the police force, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” The guy did not know what he was thinking until he whispered to him: “I think the mayor’s one of them.” Until then, there were a lot of cases like: A bank robbery, A murder of a man who found dead in a dark alley and a guy who has seen a man in a red hoodie on his head stealing his money.

What Inspector Nathan was most interested in was the last report: A guy who has seen a man in a red hoodie on his head who was stealing his money. He thought the guy with a hoodie on his head might be held responsible for all the crimes reported and the mayor’s house robbery. We don’t know what’s about to happen once he returned to mayor’s house but I think it goes like this: The mayor’s missing. But only on Saturdays and Sundays, which is when, the crimes happen. Is the mayor and all the crimes connected somehow? Well, we’re about to find out because Inspector Nathan made a time machine to go back in time to find out what happened last time. He arrived in the year 2004, which was when the cases started. He saw the mayor walking back to his home happily when all of a sudden a U.F.O stood right in front of him. Inside were 3 monsters named, Zig, Zog and Zarg. They immediately transformed the mayor into a crazy drooling monster with two drooping eyeballs. Then Inspector Nathan understood but he must find an antidote somehow! So, back to the modern day, he tried some experiments to make an antidote but nothing worked so he was hopeless and helpless until a wishing fairy suddenly appeared and said that she could grant him any wish but it could only be one wish. Inspector Nathan wished for the antidote that could change a monster to a human for the mayor. Before the wishing fairy left, she dropped a bottle of liquid that was sparkling white! was so happy he almost burst out of his lab! After that, he decided to make a plan and it went like this: He had added the liquid into a type of whiskey which was also pure white and it was also the mayor’s favorite whiskey. Then, he sent it to the mayor so that he would drink it, then all of the crimes would go away!

In the end, the mayor was cured and all the crimes went away just like we said. The famous Inspector Nathan was on his quest for another mysteries and I wonder what would it be?
